Combo Fishing
If you only get one day in Westport and can’t decide between chasing salmon or loading up on bottom fish, this is your fix. A salmon and rockfish combo fishing trip on Sudsy lets you stack steady structure action with hard‑running Kings and Coho in the same 11‑hour run instead of gambling on just one program.

How a combo day usually runs
This trip is basically two charters stitched together into one full‑value day.
Check-in
5:00 AM check‑in – Meet the crew at the boat, grab a 1‑day license onboard if you need it, and get your spot at the rail.
Rockfish
Rockfish first – Run to structure and start on rockfish, dropping straight down and reeling up steady bites
Lingcod
When lingcod are snapping, you can keep legal fish that eat while you work the rocks.
Switch to salmon
Once the rockfish side of the program is handled, the crew swaps gear and speed, and you hunt Chinook and Coho.
Fish Untill
Fish until it’s full – Work through late morning and early afternoon
Back to the marina
Run back in with both white‑meat fillets and bright salmon ready for the freezer or grill.
Target species and limits
This salmon and rockfish combo fishing trip is dialed around the most consistent producers.
Bottom portion
- Target: up to 7 rockfish per angler
- Bonus: legal lingcod that bite while you’re working structure
Salmon portion
- Bag limit: 2 salmon total
- One Coho and one Chinook, or two Coho
- All Coho must be fin‑clipped hatchery fish only
Rockfish (and any lingcod) give you mild, flaky white meat. Salmon bring the rich, high‑fat fillets you want for grilling and smoking. For a single trip, you walk away with a lot of variety in one ice chest.

Ideal for families, work groups, and crews who want to control the pace and vibe
If you’ve already done straight bottom fishing or a dedicated salmon fishing charter, this combo feels like the “best of both” version. If you decide you want even more range next time, you can plan a dedicated day on halibut fishing charters or go full offshore with albacore tuna fishing charters when those seasons open.
What’s included
- Rods
- Reels
- Bait
The crew handles rigging, the swap from bottom gear to salmon spreads, netting or gaffing fish, and keeping you fishing instead of dealing with tangles.
What to bring
Pack like you’re going to be outside all day on the Pacific:
- Hat and sunglasses
- Warm layers and a waterproof jacket
- Snacks and food for the full 11 hours
- Plenty of water and other drinks
- Seasickness medicine taken well before you get to the dock
License & Tipping
License:
- You must have a valid Washington State fishing license for the day
- If you don’t already have one, a 1‑day license is available onboard for 10 during check‑in
Tipping:
- The deckhand is working non‑stop—baiting hooks, clearing lines, helping at the rail, and dealing with fish
- Plan to tip based on effort and the kind of day they helped put together
Who this trip is perfect for
This combo makes the most sense if you:
- Have one free day to fish and want both bottom fish and salmon
- Like the idea of changing it up instead of doing the same thing all day
- Want steady rockfish action and a real swing at a “big King” or hot Coho run
- Are driving in from a distance and want maximum value from a single charter
