Lingcod Fishing

This deep‑water charter focuses on the same species you see on a standard bottom run, rockfish, lingcod, and bottom fish, but pushes out into 500‑plus feet where the average size jumps. The day is longer, the gear is heavier, and every drop takes more work, which is exactly what many returning anglers want once they’ve done the entry‑level program.

Lingcod Fishing Westport WA

Deep Water Lingcod Fishing overview

This is a full‑day ocean trip targeting Kings and Coho off the Washington coast. You get enough time to find fish, work different zones, and adjust to conditions instead of rushing back to the dock.

Compared to our nearshore bottom fishing trips, this run means a longer ride, deeper drops, and more time working offshore structure.

Season and timing

This deep program has a much tighter window than the standard bottom fishery.

  • Open June 1–15
  • Open again September 1–15

Because the calendar is so limited with our Westport lingcod fishing, a lot of crews plan their whole Westport schedule - mixing in a day of halibut or a summer salmon run -around these dates. Locking in spots early is smart if this trip style is a priority.

Target species and limits

The focus is the same mix you see on shallow trips, but the deeper water changes the average size and overall feel of the day.

  • Daily goal: 7 rockfish and 2 lingcod
  • Rockfish here often run in the 3 to 8 pound class
  • Many of the toothy ones go 10 to 40+ pounds
  • Bag limit: 7 rockfish and 2 lingcod

Bright, orange‑gold canary rockfish show up on these structure drifts from time to time, adding some color to the lineup. If you like the action and variety of the regular bottom program but want a shot at heavier grades, this is where you go.

What the day looks like

Here’s the basic flow for this long offshore day:

Check-in

Check in at 4:00 AM, load up, and get a quick rundown on the plan

Leave the dock

Leave the dock at 4:30 AM and make the longer run out to deep contours

Drop gear

Drop heavy gear in 500‑plus feet and start working targeted pieces of structure

Multiple drifts

Make multiple drifts over reefs, rock piles, and breaks to build limits

Back to the marina

Head back toward Westport once the program is finished and everyone’s arms are feeling it

The depth and gear mean fewer casual drops and more intentional fishing. Expect to stay engaged and active throughout the day.

What’s included

  • Rods
  • Reels
  • Bait

All heavy tackle needed for deep drops is supplied. The crew handles the setups, helps you manage bottom contact in serious depth, and works the rail so you can concentrate on staying in the zone and cranking when a rod loads up.

What to bring

Plan for a long, changeable day on the Pacific:

  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Layers and a waterproof jacket
  • Snacks and food for the entire 10 hours
  • Plenty of water and other beverages
  • Seasickness medicine taken well in advance

License & Tipping

License:

  • You need a valid Washington State fishing license
  • If you don’t have one yet, a 1‑day license is available onboard for $10

Tipping:
  • Don’t forget to take care of your deckhand; this deep‑water program means constant rigging, lifting, and help at the rail all day.

Who this charter fits best

This charter makes the most sense for:

  • Crews who are comfortable with an early start, a longer ride, and heavy gear in deep water
  • Anglers who care more about a shot at heavier‑grade structure fish than about an easy, short outing
If you’re newer to ocean trips, starting with a nearshore bottom trip or a summer charter is usually a better first step. Once you’re comfortable with the motion and the pace, this deep‑water option is a natural next level.
